Studying Abroad During The Pandemic

This Covid 19 pandemic has affected many lives and altered many plans, including those students who plan to study abroad.

Traveling in and out of any country is restricted to help prevent the spread of the virus. This makes studying abroad tricky. But we only say it is difficult. However, it is not impossible. Naturally, you have to do things differently compared to what they used to be.

For those of you who still plan to continue pursuing your studies abroad or someone who is having second thoughts, this article is for you.

Why Still Study Abroad?

According to a recent survey, 9 out of 10 students would still pursue studying abroad. So given the current situation, why is it that most students still wanted to study overseas?

Good For Your Resume

For starters, being able to study in a different country would look good on your CV. Your future employers would see that you already have the experience to deal with diverse cultures and adapt to different environments.

It would also indicate that you can interact with people using different languages. This is a plus, especially if your employer is a multinational company dealing with people from different parts of the globe

Get To Meet New People Outside Your Circle

Studying abroad allows you to meet a diverse range of people. This would help you develop your social skills and give you a better understanding of various cultures from different places. In addition, it broadens your network as you get a chance to have lifelong friends from a different country.

Learn Differently

Each country has different teaching styles. Being able to experience these variations is suitable for exercising your mind as it allows it to adapt and find new ways to learn.

It may be hard at first, but that is the beauty of it. You will be able to train yourself to get out of your comfort zone to achieve your goal. This ability is the secret of some of the most successful people in the world.

Given that studying abroad has a lot of benefits, the question is, is it still possible to study abroad even with the pandemic? The answer is a solid yes, but it might be different from how it used to be. Since travel abroad is limited, different universities create contingency plans to allow international students to study on their campus.

Virtual Classes

Thanks to today’s technology, attending class wherever you are in the world has become possible. Online classes could be conducted as long as you have a laptop, cellphone, or tablet and a decent internet connection.

It is one of the most cost-effective ways to study abroad as you don’t have to spend on your travel and relocation cost. You still get the benefits that you get out of studying abroad, like meeting new people, learning new cultures, and diverse teaching methods. The only thing lacking is your chance to experience living in a different country and becoming independent personally.

Special Access To Students

Some countries do not allow tourists to come in but give special access to students who want to study in their country and physically attend class. However, there are CDC restrictions and guidelines that international students must take note of first before planning for the trip.

Paradigm Shift For Universities

The end of the pandemic is still unknown; that is why universities are adjusting their curriculum to accommodate students who want to enroll. For example, some universities are shortening the courses from one year down to six weeks. Some even offer a “Learn Now, Travel Later” option wherein you can opt to study through their online class then go to their campus when the pandemic subsides.

Studying abroad would help you become a better person and bring out the best in you.

This pandemic should not be the reason for you to stop your dream. It did delay it for a bit, but there will always be a way as long as you are determined. If you still opt to study abroad, make sure that you are responsible and considerate to your visiting country. Follow their safety protocols and help defeat the spread of the virus.
