How To Start A Travel Blog While Studying In College

If you love to travel and people always ask you for advice and tips, then why don’t you make your reach bigger and start your own blog?  

We know what you are probably thinking. You think that this isn’t a great idea. Who reads a blog anyway? Many people are into videos, so you have this misconception that putting up a new blog will remain futile.  

That’s where you got it all wrong. According to statistics, there are about 409 million people who view more than 20 billion pages every month. So you see, there is still market for blogs.  

The next concern would be, what type of travel are you going to feature while you are still studying in college?

Think Of Your Blog Name  

Some are using their personal name for the blog. If your name has a catching ring to it, then why not? But in most cases, you have to think of something different. It should be unique, could be easily associated with travel, and again, must be catchy.  

While you are at it, check if the domain is still available. Since there are a lot of travel bloggers today, you can never be too sure if someone is using it already. Do your research and even check the social media if the name is already taken.  

But don’t be too hard on yourself. If you can’t think of a good name right now, just relax. Remember that the best ideas happen when you are calm and not pressuring yourself.  

Use WordPress  

Many bloggers are using WordPress, being one of the most popular options. Plus, we have to say, it’s easy to use. Even if you are not tech-savvy, you are going to understand how to navigate through it. There are also several online tutorials you can check out.  

Start Writing Your First Blog Post  

You have to start at something. Perhaps, introduce yourself on your first blog post and share snippets of your travel. At least you are already giving your readers a glimpse of what to expect from your content.  

We understand that you might not be comfortable writing just yet or you are scared of what other people might think about your posts. But that’s fine. Even the best and most successful travel writers had to endure such type of feeling. What matters most is that you are able to conquer the fear, and just do it.  

It is true that you might have some hate comments in the future. But that’s already a fact of life. You cannot please everybody and the same goes for your blog posts. However, you have to think of the people who believe in you, and those that you could potentially help with your tips. 

List Down Your Blog Post Ideas  

If you are going to take this seriously, being random and just writing what you have in mind as of the moment, might not work. What we recommend is that you become more organized. For example, when you have free time and you don’t have exams and reports to fulfill, list down topics that you will write for your blog. This will allow you to improve your content and you could research further. Thus, giving more value to your readers.  

Don’t Forget To Promote Your Blog  

We know that promoting your blog to your families and friends might be a bit awkward at first. Again, there’s always this fear of being judged by the people you treasure the most. But don’t think too much about it. If they are to say anything, take it as a constructive criticism. Who knows if what they say could help you reach more people? Don’t take it personally and just be proactive in promoting your blog.  

However, don’t over do it. If you flood your feed with your content or promotion, they might get turned-off. Do it regularly but in the most subtle way possible.

Feature Your Campus  

Since you are still studying and probably you have limited resources and time to travel right now, why don’t you feature your campus? Or maybe you can have a tour of your local community. It doesn’t have to be in Paris or in Bali. It’s even more interesting to feature off-the-beaten-path locations because these are the areas that people don’t go to often. You could be their eyes!  

Stop Thinking About Perfection  

The reason why you are hesitant to start or to continue is that you want everything to be perfect.  

Stop.  

If you always think about perfection, it will be harder for you to progress. Just enjoy, write from the heart, and if you are to make mistakes, then just it let be.
