How To Keep Your Sanity During Finals Week

For generations, students have given out tons of sweat and tears. It brought down even the toughest challengers who dare face it and has terrorized millions of students all around the world. Yes, we are talking about the most stressful time in a college student’s life –  finals week.

This is how some might describe finals week. It is daunting and stressful, no doubt about that. But if you know what to do during this time, then it should be as easy as a regular day in class. Here are some tips to help keep your sanity during finals week.

Create a Strict Regular Schedule

During your finals week, make sure that you create a plan for your schedule. This would allow you to study ahead of time. Trying to absorb too much information at the last minute often leads to not retaining it at all.

The more time you can study, the better you can understand the topic. You are not forced to memorize your subject, but rather you should learn and understand it. Just make sure that when you make a schedule, strictly follow it. Otherwise, it will remain futile.

Always Create Multiple Plans

Ever heard of “Murphy’s Law.”

It is a saying which means “anything that can go wrong will go wrong.” That is why it is wise to always have a backup plan for everything, especially your notes or research papers.

There are lots of ways you can create a backup. Either you save it on an external hard drive, use cloud storage or have multiple copies printed. You’d never know what might happen at the last minute, so it’s better that you come prepared.

You’d rather have something prepared and not need it than not have it when you need it. During finals week, every second counts, so trying to redo your notes is something you don’t want to happen.

Take A Break And Have Yourself Some “Me Time”

Yes, time is of the essence when it comes to finals week. And you might ask, how can you have a break if time is already not enough just for studying alone.?

Now, if you have followed the first tip on this article, then you should have at least an ample amount of free time to dedicate to yourself.

Taking breaks from studying helps you clear your mind and break the monotony. It would allow you to renew your energy, helping you absorb more information.

Stress can take a toll on your body and makes you reject the information you are studying. Therefore it is better to pause for a bit and let your body and mind establish itself again.

Eat Healthy Food

It’s understandable that you don’t have the time to prepare your own food. That is why fast food is the way to go. But keep in mind that your body needs to add nutrients to keep itself going.

Make sure you eat fresh fruits and vegetables that are high in fiber. This would make you feel fuller and last longer. It is hard to study with an empty stomach, and skipping meals is also a no-no.

If you are too busy, have a banana or apple. Spending a few minutes eating properly would save you more time in the long run as you would be able to study more effectively when you eat healthily.

Stay Away From Distractions

It is easy to lose focus, especially nowadays that distractions are everywhere. Make sure that your study area is clean and free from it as it would help you study better.

Try to stay away from things that you like doing as well. If you are a movie buff, then it would be more appropriate if you stay away from the television, at least for the time being. The less you see, the less time you will think about it.

Get Some Good Night’s Rest

Getting a complete night’s rest is crucial for keeping you sane for the finals week. You need to make sure that you get a complete 8 to 9 hours of sleep every day to function properly.

With the upcoming finals week, who can get enough sleep? That’s probably your question, right?

Remember, it’s all about proper time management. If you are able to plot your schedule properly, then sleeping for 8 hours shouldn’t even be a challenge. You need to be well rested in order for you to perform well during this week.

Finals week is not just a test of how much you learn in school but also how you will be able to handle your time. It also teaches you how to handle stress and not let it take over you.

Finals week gives you a glimpse of how the real world works outside the walls of your campus. See it as a training that you can use to be successful in your future career.
