How To Cope Up With Covid As A College Student

Covid 19 has affected a lot of people all over the world. Campuses have closed down as part of an effort to flatten the curve and prevent the virus from further spreading. This forced all college students to go back to their respective homes.

Some might have enjoyed this as they can spend time with their loved ones, but those who have bad memories in their house have no choice but to go back home.

Classes are now conducted online while other extracurricular activities and anticipated college events have been cancelled.

Students who work part-time have lost their jobs, just like many other employees everywhere. As for the graduating students, their job hunt is now put on hold as companies have stopped their hiring process to save costs.

This sudden change in the environment is taking its toll on a lot of college students. Based on a study, they are more susceptible to experiencing anxiety and depression compared to the general population. If you are one of them, here are some tips you can do to help cope up with covid 19.

You Are Not Alone

It is normal for people to have mixed emotions, especially if they are experiencing stress. You should not be worried if you are being anxious, frustrated, mad, and sad all at the same time.

Try talking to someone and express how you feel. Venting out your emotions would help ease out the stress. You should not let this feeling worsen as it could affect your ability to function normally. Keep in mind that there are people out there who are more than willing to help you.

Create A Regular Routine

Even when you are isolated at home, you still need to create a daily routine to keep you busy throughout the day. Try to keep track of your class schedules and set activities that you can do in between. If possible, find a good physical activity that you could engage yourself in, such as running, biking, or walking.

Dress For The Occasion

Just because you are at home doesn’t mean you’re not supposed to groom yourself.

When attending your zoom class, make sure that you dress up as if you are physically going to your classroom. This would create an environment that is familiar to you and make it feel like you are back on campus.

Eat Proper Food and Get A Good Night’s Rest

During this uncertain time, you need to boost your immune system to cope with all the stress this pandemic has brought.

Eating healthy foods and getting 8 hours of sleep every day are considered the pillars of your health. Practicing proper sleeping and eating habits will allow you to have a healthy lifestyle that would help you cope with this pandemic.

Keep In Touch With Your Friends

Being isolated at home should not stop you from interacting with your friends. There are different social media network sites that you can use to connect with college friends.

We are lucky that this happened at a time where video calling is possible. Imagine if the only means of communicating with other people is through snail mail.

If you are feeling lonely, call a friend. You will be surprised how a simple chat can change everything.

Take A Break

You need to take some time off from all the things happening around you. Hearing the daily news can be stressful as all you hear are the things happening because of this pandemic.

What you need to do is surround yourself with positive thoughts. Try doing something that you love, like a hobby. It can be playing the guitar, doing some artwork, cooking – do whatever makes you happy. This could help you clear your anxiety and remove all the negative thoughts you are experiencing

Covid 19 is not the end of our lives, but rather a start of a new one. It gave us a different perspective about life and made us appreciate all the things we used to take for granted.

If you are struggling to cope up, do not hesitate to ask for help. This is a life challenge that would help you grow as a better person.
