Here Is A Method That Is Helping Students Ace Their Math Tests

When it comes to acing a math test, students are using the following 6-step method to help them pass even the most difficult tests. Testing may seem like torture to many people, but studies about education show that testing helps students retain the information that they have learned.

So instead of panicking about your math test, we encourage you to use the 6-step method to math testing success.

Step 1- Study Your Teacher

Teachers are all different in what they feel is the most important part of what they are teaching. For some math teachers, they are more worried about students understanding the steps of a mathematical equation than getting the right answer each time. Other teachers just want you to be able to reach the right answer.

Take notes on what your teacher stresses during their presentations. This should give you a guideline on what is most important to them, and what will most likely be on the tests.

Step 2 – Write Out Formulas

Formulas are often the hardest part of math. Writing out by hand these formulas several times each is one of the best ways to remember each formula. Many studies have shown that your memory is stimulated when you physically write out something, and you are more prone to remember what you wrote. This is especially true if you are copying information.

Copying information requires that you read the information, make mental notes on the information, and then begin to copy that information to another source. Each of these steps allows you to retain that information for a longer period.

Step 3- Don’t Forget To Brush Up On The “Easy” Parts of Math

There is probably nothing more frustrating than mastering a large mathematical formula, but having an error in the numbers. It never hurts to brush up on your basic math skills periodically, so you don’t make mistakes on the easy stuff like adding and subtraction, while you master the harder parts of math.

Step 4 – Grade School Techniques Still Work in College

Do not be afraid to resort to grade school studying techniques just because you are in college. Making and using flashcards to master a math formula or problem still works in college. You can also use math songs or rhymes to help you get through a math problem.

When you use creative ways to remember how to complete a math problem, your brain reacts positively. The song or rhyme or memory of the flashcard is seen as a good memory, and your body is flooded with feel-good endorphins.

Step 5 – Take A Break

Over studying can hurt all of your schoolwork. When you are cramming for a math exam, you may be neglecting other areas of study. Cramming can also make you feel exhausted and overwhelmed. When you feel bad going into a classroom for testing, the results are often negative.

Taking a day to just relax from studying for the math test may be very beneficial. Let the information you have learned bounce around for a day while you focus on something else. You will be surprised when you resume studying how much you have retained.

Step 6 – Attend The Test Rested And Do A Quick Review

Don’t stay up all night cramming for the math test. Get some sleep. Your brain will function much better if it is well-rested. Get to class a few minutes early and review your information. When the test is about to start, take a deep breath, and ace the test.
