Healthy Food Recipes You Can Cook In Your Dorm

College life gives you a glimpse of what life would be like in the real world. There are so many things to do with so little time, and it seems that the tasks are never-ending. You have your school paper, your homework, not to mention if you have any extracurricular activities. With all these things happening around you, oftentimes you rely upon fast food for your meal.

But the problem with it is that you don’t get enough nutrients from these foods that would give the energy required to accomplish all your tasks. Don’t worry, here are some healthy foods you could try to keep your body full of energy ready for another day.

Stir Fry Ramen

If we talk about quick and easy-to-make dorm foods, then Ramen would always be on the list. But there are dozens of ways you can cook Ramen, and this is just one of those. Take note that this is not the typical off-the-shelf instant ramen you buy in the grocery store.

To do this, you need to prepare the following ingredients.

Sauce Ingredients:

  • One tablespoon rice vinegar
  • One teaspoon minced garlic
  • Two teaspoons hoisin sauce
  • One tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • Two tablespoons soy sauce
  • One teaspoon brown sugar
  • One teaspoon minced ginger

For the noodle:

  • Three packs of ramen noodles (No need for the flavor packet)
  • One tablespoon oil
  • One teaspoon minced garlic
  • One teaspoon minced ginger
  • One small head of broccoli
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • One egg
  • One tablespoon minced cilantro (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine all the sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Cook the noodles following the instructions.
  3. Using a pan, saute the garlic, ginger, peppers, and broccoli. Then scramble an egg, add it together with your mixed vegetables.
  4. Once the noodles are cooked, drain the water, then add it to your sauteed vegetables, and pour over your sauce mixture.
  5. Once done, you can add cilantro as your garnish, then enjoy

Salmon In A Microwave

Who says you can’t cook good food in a microwave?

Microwave is one of a college student’s best friends as you can practically do many recipes using just that. Now, you can also use a microwave to create a perfectly cooked salmon. It is a very quick recipe that would only take you around 5 minutes to cook.

For the ingredients, you need to prepare the following:

  • One single portion fillet salmon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Two tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Two tablespoons sriracha sauce
  • Two fresh cut lemon slices
  • One tablespoon parsley

To cook it:

  1. Make sure that before cooking, you have cleaned and dried your salmon.
  2. Season it with salt and pepper then place it skin-side down in a microwavable container, and set aside.
  3. Combine your sriracha and mayonnaise in a bowl and spread the mixture onto your fish. Add lemon slices and parsley on top and cover it tightly with a microwave-safe plastic wrap.
  4. Cook the fish for around 4 minutes and check the center of the fish with a fork if it’s already cooked. If still not done, cook it for another 45 seconds, then serve.

Chocolate Chip Cake In A Mug

Of course, a meal won’t be complete without any dessert. Not all healthy foods taste bland, and this is proof of it. To create this delicious dessert, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/8 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1/8 tablespoon salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup applesauce
  • 2 tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoon chocolate chips

Procedure

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl. After mixing, pour your wet into a dry mixture, and stir until evenly combined.
  2. Grease a mug, then pour the mixture. Using the microwave, cook for 1 minute and 20 seconds. If your microwave has a lower wattage, the cooking time may take longer, so check it until cooked.
  3. Once done, let it cool down before popping it out.
  4. You can then add any low-fat ice cream if you want to get that full delightful experience.

Creating a good healthy meal in your dorm is not that hard. Sometimes you just need to be creative and maximize all your available resources. Remember, there should be no excuse for staying healthy.
