Biggest Regrets In Life, College Guide

In life they say, you don’t regret the things that you did but rather you regret the things that you didn’t do. So while you’re still in college, you have to maximize your time there. You have to enjoy and do things as much as you can. However, it seems that not all people are trying to live this way.

If you are one of them, this post is for you. We’re going to share with you some of the biggest regrets of former college students, and maybe you still have to change the course of your life.

Studying The Wrong Major

This is a common mistake of most college students. They enrolled in a college program just for the heck of it. But in reality, they didn’t think if it suits them well.

At the end of the day, even if they got good grades or if they passed the exams, they were not satisfied. The job that they have right now is not akin to what they are passionate about.

So what are we trying to say here? If you’re going to college, make sure that your major is what you want, and that you are committed to finish it. That way, when you’re looking for a job, it’s easier for you to last. Don’t go to a college program just because it’s the in demand one or that most of your high school classmates are taking it. It doesn’t work that way, and it’s not a good practice to join the bandwagon.

Not Joining Extracurricular Activities

We understand that college can be demanding in terms of having your papers submitted or studying for your exams. But it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have time for extracurricular activities. In fact, it’s the right time to join clubs and organizations.

You might be asking why?

It’s because from here, you can create a network. And this network can be your foundation when looking for a job in the future. Or if you want to establish a business, these are the same people that you can tap into.

If you are drowning in your classes and all your academic whatnot, you wouldn’t have the time for such things. You are limiting your network to a very small circle, which is not ideal in today’s world.

Also, you have to think about your future when you enter the corporate world. We have to be honest, you won’t have much time for social activities. While you still have the luxury to enjoy time with your friends, then we say do it.

Not Prioritizing Studies

While we encourage you to have fun, this doesn’t mean that you have to forget your studies. If someone invites you to a party and you have an early class in the morning, you can politely decline it for now.

The point is, many people regretted that they didn’t study hard during their college days. You see, your good grades could be your leverage when you apply for a job. Of course, it’s not the only thing that employers will look at. But it sure does have a lot of weight. If you mix your studies with things outside of the academe, then you get the most out of your college experience.

Not Finding Time To Travel

Perhaps you are thinking that you can’t travel because you don’t have a lot of money. But if you are passionate to go out there and see the world, then you will find ways to achieve it. You can get an extra job, even remote ones so you can save funds. Thank heavens because there are a lot of job opportunities even for college students.

We encourage you to travel because you get to learn a lot of things. These learnings are not taught in the four corners of your room. You get to expose yourself to a different culture, meet different people, understand various languages, and sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone. And you if you do, that’s where you will grow further.

Not Learning How To Manage Finances

During college days, there will be a lot of temptations to spend your money. You might go out with your friends, buy new clothes, or buy new gadgets. However, you have to remember that managing your finances is absolutely important, not just during your university days, but when you go out of college.

There are a lot of students who were not able to work on their finances. Thus, they are drowning in debt even after years of earning their degree.

As early as now, know how to budget. If you can find ways to earn cash, then do so. You can start a small business, look for part time stints, or offer your services. That way, you can see how hard it is to earn money and you’ll be able to control your impulses.
