Are You Too Sensitive, Ways To Improve Your College Life

It’s OK to be sensitive. It means you always think about what others would feel. But being too sensitive is not good too. Chances are, you’re always affected whenever simple comments are thrown at you.

As a college student, you need to improve your emotional intelligence so you can deal with such comments or feedback even if these are negative in nature. Question now is, how are you going to deal with it? This post could certainly help you.

Make It A Habit To Write Down Your Feelings

If you think you’re being too sensitive, our suggestion is that you write down your feelings. It doesn’t matter if you’re a good writer. But what matters most is that you try to unknot these complex feelings even through your diary, your blog. or even your Twitter. And if you’re not too comfortable showing it to the public, then you can always make your social media private. The point is, you have to release your thoughts.

Know What Pulls Your Trigger

When you already have the reference material or the thoughts that you’ve written down, it’s time to assess and evaluate. Try to see the things that make you feel too emotional. Perhaps, it’s when people talk about your physical appearance. Maybe it’s when someone commented on your work. Or, you think you’re too sensitive when people talk about families. You see, identifying these things could help you create a solution.

Avoid Being Too Hard On Yourself

When you are too sensitive and you receive certain comments, it’s natural for you to feel bad. At times, you’d keep on thinking about it for hours, and that could affect your mental and emotional health.

However, you have to accept the fact that we have different likes and dislikes. And you have to remember that you cannot please everyone. If you feel that you are doing your best, hearing such feedback from others should not be your gauge if you’re a good person or not.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Instead, try to see if they have valid points and improve from there. Do not take it too personally, or else it might consume you.

In addition, you might overthink about the situation. Quite frankly, that’s never good. Of course, it’s nice if you try to evaluate all the things that are being thrown at you. But if you keep on finding answers. you’re just wasting a lot of time. And that time can be allotted for something productive.

Instead of feeling bad, why don’t you go out and do something that will make you happy? For example, you can do a bit of retail therapy. Or maybe you can attend a dance class. Go see a movie if you must. Sometimes, there are questions that you should leave unanswered. Nevertheless, life must go on.

Don’t Assume And Conclude Right Away

Often, we would always assume and conclude immediately. But before you react, you have to sit down and try to see the intentions of the other person. Maybe they’re not trying to hurt you. But instead, they genuinely want to help you.

So before you cry and isolate yourself from the world, you should look at it using a different perspective. There are people who are concerned about you and would like you to be a better version of yourself. But if you think that they are always the enemy, you are never going to improve.

Ask For Feedback

It’s also a good practice to challenge yourself. If you are not used to asking feedback, then it’s about time that you do it.

For example, if you have written an article, ask your friends and professors to check it for you. If you’ve created a painting or music, ask someone to give their genuine comments. That’s the only time that you can be a better person. And before you know it, you are less sensitive when hearing feedback from different people.

The World Does Not Revolve Around You

Reality check – the world does not revolve around you. Chances are, people are struggling with their own challenges and problems. So whenever they say something which does not sit well with you, it doesn’t mean they hate you.

Again, don’t take things personally. Look at it objectively. See if they have valid reasons. Improve, and then just move on.
